A Brief Introduction to Distributed Cognition©
نویسنده
چکیده
History and Background The Distributed Cognition (dcog) approach was developed by Ed Hutchins ad his colleagues at University California, San Diego in the mid to late 80s as a radically new paradigm for rethinking all domains of cognitive phenomena. The traditional view of cognition is that it is a localised phenomenon that is best explained in terms of information processing at the level of the individual. In contrast Hutchins was making the claim that cognition is better understood as a distributed phenomenon. The theoretical and methodological base of the distributed cognition approach derives from the cognitive sciences, cognitive anthropology and the social sciences.

متن کاملA Brief Introduction to Cortical Representations of Objects
To understand how objects are recognized and represented in the human brain is still one of the ultimate goals of cognitive science. In this article, we will collect evidence from mainly neurophysiological studies which suggest that object recognition is achieved by hierarchical processing in the brain and that the representation of objects is distributed and view-based. Furthermore, these stud...
متن کاملA brief introduction to quaternion matrices and linear algebra and on bounded groups of quaternion matrices
The division algebra of real quaternions, as the only noncommutative normed division real algebra up to isomorphism of normed algebras, is of great importance. In this note, first we present a brief introduction to quaternion matrices and quaternion linear algebra. This, among other things, will help us present the counterpart of a theorem of Herman Auerbach in the setting of quaternions. More ...
متن کاملThe Potential of Using Quantum Theory to Build Models of Cognition
Quantum cognition research applies abstract, mathematical principles of quantum theory to inquiries in cognitive science. It differs fundamentally from alternative speculations about quantum brain processes. This topic presents new developments within this research program. In the introduction to this topic, we try to answer three questions: Why apply quantum concepts to human cognition? How is...
متن کاملDistributed Combinatorial Optimization
This paper reports about research projects of the University of Paderborn in the eld of distributed combinatorial optimization. We give an introduction into combinatorial optimization and a brief deenition of some important applications. As a rst exact solution method we describe branch & bound and present the results of our work on its distributed implementation. Results of our distributed imp...
